In this tale of eternal love, a power-hungry magician turns a princess into a swan during the day. The evil sorcerer Rothbart (Jack Palance) plans to take over the kingdom of King William (Dakin Matthews) for himself by mastering a type of dark magic known as The Forbidden Arts. Before he could strike, Rothbart was arrested. Despite his death call, King William saved Rothbart’s life and exiled him forever. A disgusted Rothbart vows to take revenge on King William and tells him that he will one day take back his power and take everything William has and loves. King William and his friend, Queen Uberta (Sandy Duncan), visit their children, Odette and Derek, each summer, hoping that they will fall in love and unite their two kingdoms and marry. When they first meet, the royal children develop an immediate dislike for each other, but they slowly fall in love as the years go by.
