Three trappers protect the daughters of a British colonel amid the French and Indian War. The story takes place in 1757, during the French and Indian War in the Adirondack Mountains, in the British colony of New York. Major Duncan Hayward of the British Army arrived in Albany. He is sent to serve under Colonel Edmund Munro, the commander of Fort William Henry. Hayward is given the task of taking the Colonel’s two daughters, Cora and Alice, to their father. He is a family friend and is in love with Cora. He proposes to her before they leave, but she doesn’t answer him.
