In three months into 2020, most of the human and animal populations on Earth have been wiped out by blind extraterrestrial creatures caused by meteor showers that hit Earth. Creatures that attack anything that makes noises, susceptible hearing and indestructible, armored skin.
The Abbott family – wife Evelyn, husband Lee, born deaf daughter Regan and sons Marcus and Beau – work quietly scavenging for supplies in a deserted town. While out in the open, the family communicates with American Sign Language (ASL). Four-year-old Beau is designed for battery-powered spacecraft toys, but Lee takes it away because of the noise. Regan returns the toy to Beaver, who also takes away the batteries his father had taken. When the family was walking home and crossing a bridge, Beau activated the toy and gave its location to a nearby creature that killed Lee before saving him.
